Specialized Advising
Advising Philosophy
The Specialized Advisors utilize a proactive advising approach when supporting student success. Proactive advising is an institutionally-initiated advising practice that includes coordinated, collaborative, personalized, and intentional outreach strategies and practices designed to anticipate potential barriers to student success, provide timely interventions, and invite meaningful engagement between advisors and students. By anticipating barriers, providing interventions, and inviting engagement, proactive advising strategies and practices support improved student experiences and outcomes.
Student-Centered, Wrap-Around Service.
Students are at the center of our work. The Specialized Advisors are committed to supporting student success, which is defined differently by every student. We provide "wrap-around" services (think of it as individualized support) intended to positively contribute to your overall student success, both in and out of the classroom.
Wrap-around services to our students include:
- clarifying academic and personal goals
- connecting students to critical and timely resources on campus and in the community
- assisting with time management, organization and study skills
- actively reaching out to help students persist to graduation.
Please note: Specialized Advisors cannot authorize enrollment.
