If you are under the age of 24, then when you apply, we will need your parent(s) 1040 tax form. If you do not have access to their form, you must fill out the income eligibility form with your parent(s) signature.
If you are at or above the age of 24, then you will need to provide your own 1040 tax form.
If you have trouble accessing your 1040, we also accept a SAR.
If you do not know your dependency status, you can find how to determine it on the Federal Student Aid Dependency Status webpage.
You can either give it to us in-person or email us at vsss@wichita.edu
Wichita State University's Veteran Student Support Services (VSSS) program helps eligible military-affiliated students navigate college, strengthen their academic skills, and work toward graduation. As a federally funded TRIO Student Support Services program, VSSS follows eligibility requirements established by the U.S. Department of Education.
To qualify for VSSS, students must meet all of the following federal requirements:
Students must be a U.S. citizen or national, or meet the residency requirements for federal student financial assistance.
Students must be enrolled at Wichita State University or accepted for enrollment for the next academic term.
Students must have a need for academic support, as determined by the VSSS program, to successfully pursue their postsecondary education.
Students must meet at least one of these criteria:
First-Generation College Student: A student whose parent(s) or legal guardian(s) did not complete a bachelor's degree. Federal program definitions and specific family circumstances are used to determine eligibility.
Low-Income Student: A student who meets the U.S. Department of Education's applicable federal income guidelines.
Student with a Disability: A student with a documented disability who meets the program's eligibility criteria.
Meeting one or more of these categories does not automatically guarantee acceptance into VSSS. All applicants must also meet the other federal eligibility requirements and complete the program's eligibility review.
If you're a military-affiliated student at Wichita State University and think you may qualify, we encourage you to connect with our VSSS team. We'll help you learn more about the program, review your eligibility, and explore the academic resources available to support your success.
Your goals matter, and we're here to help you move forward.
