Before You Apply

How do I apply to Wichita State?

Complete the online undergraduate application and select the option that best fits your situation. Application options are available for freshmen, transfer students, adult learners and non-degree students.

If you previously attended WSU as a degree-seeking student, review the information for returning students before submitting a new application.

International and graduate applicants should use their respective application pages.

Apply to Wichita State

When should I apply?

Wichita State reviews applications throughout the year for most incoming students. Applications for the next academic year open July 1, and we recommend applying early before the semester you plan to start.

Some scholarships and academic programs have earlier deadlines, so be sure to review any dates that apply to you. You must also be accepted as a student pursuing a degree before you can receive federal financial aid.

Should I apply as a freshman, transfer student or adult learner?

If you're under age 21:

Apply as a freshman if you have not attended college after high school.

Apply as a transfer student if you attended another college or university after high school.

If you're age 21 or older:

Apply as a transfer student if you have completed 24 or more college credit hours.

Apply as an adult learner if you have completed fewer than 24 college credit hours.

If you're unsure where you fit in, check out our Admission Requirements page or call us at 316-978-3085.

Undergraduate Admission Requirements

What are the admission requirements?

Admission requirements depend on your student type. Review the requirements to see what applies to you.

If you do not meet the guaranteed admission requirements, you are still encouraged to apply and your application will be reviewed individually.

How do I quality for an application fee waiver?

Application fee waivers are available only to incoming first-year students who plan to enroll at Wichita State immediately after graduating from high school. Eligibility is based on financial circumstances. If you qualify, the fee waiver option will appear within the undergraduate application based on your answers to certain questions.

If you believe you qualify but do not see the fee waiver option, email admissions.processing@wichita.edu and explain your circumstances.

Who qualifies for in-state (resident) tuition?

Students who live outside Kansas may qualify for in-state tuition or reduced tuition rates based on where they live, their family's connection to Wichita State or their military affiliation. Review our Tuition Discount Programs to see what options may be available to you.

Tuition Discount Programs

For information about how Kansas residency is determined and whether you qualify for the in-state tuition rate, visit our residency page through our Registrar.

Early College Programs

I'm graduating from high school early. What do I need to submit?

Complete the undergraduate application and submit the Midterm Graduate / Early Release form. Your high school counselor must confirm that you will complete all graduation requirements before your first day of classes at Wichita State. You must also meet WSU's undergraduate admission requirements.

Midterm Graduate / Early Release Form

I applied to WSU before but didn't attend. Do I need to apply again?

It depends on when you originally applied. If your application was for another semester within the same academic year, you may be able to update your start term.

If you applied for an earlier academic year, you will need to submit a new application using a different email address than you originally applied with.

Contact Undergraduate Admissions if you are unsure which option applies to you.

I previously attended WSU. Do I need to apply again?

If you previously attended WSU as a degree-seeking student, you generally do not need to apply again.

If you graduated from WSU or it has been two years or longer since you attended, you must reactivate your student record before enrolling.

Students who previously attended only as a high school guest, college guest or other nondegree student must submit a new application to become degree-seeking.

Review the information for returning students before submitting a new application.

I took WSU classes while I was in high school. Do I need to apply again?

Yes, you will need to submit a new application. The application you completed to take classes during high school is separate from the undergraduate application for students pursuing a degree.

Is this the same application for WSU Tech?

No. Wichita State and WSU Tech are separate institutions with different applications. Visit the WSU Tech website if you are applying for a WSU Tech degree or certificate.

What to Submit

Do I need to submit test scores?

Wichita State is a test-optional school, meaning ACT or SAT scores are not required for admission for most applicants. You may still choose to submit your scores for admission, scholarships or course placement.

If you attended a non-accredited high school or were homeschooled, you may be required to submit scores. Review the Admission Requirements to see what applies to your student type.

Undergraduate Admission Requirements

How do I send transcripts and test scores to WSU?

Official transcripts can be sent through an approved electronic transcript service, emailed directly to admissions.processing@wichita.edu by your school counselor or registrar, or delivered in a sealed envelope from the school. College transcripts sent to you and then forwarded to WSU are not considered official.

ACT and SAT scores can be sent directly from the testing agency. Scores listed on an official high school transcript may also be accepted. Visit our Procedures page for complete instructions, including information for homeschool and high school equivalency students.

Transcript & Test Score Procedures

Does WSU take superscores?

No, Wichita State does not take superscores. You may still submit scores from more than one test date.

Do I need to submit an official transcript when I apply?

Incoming freshmen

While you are still in high school, you can apply by self-reporting your academic information and test scores, if applicable. After you graduate, you must submit your final official high school transcript.

Note: Beginning June 1, incoming freshmen applying for the upcoming fall semester must have a final official transcript on file before an admission decision can be made.

Transfer and adult learners

You must submit official transcripts from every college or university you have attended for an admission decision to be made. Depending on your age and number of completed college credits, you may also need to submit a high school transcript or GED record. Visit our Admissions Requirements page to see what applies to your student type.

When do I need to submit my final official transcript?

Incoming freshmen should ask their high school to send a final official transcript after graduation. The transcript must include your graduation date.

To be admitted, transfer and adult learners must submit official transcripts from every college or university you have attended. If you are currently taking classes at the time you apply, you will need to send an updated transcript after your final grades are posted.

How can I see how my college credits transfer to WSU?

Use WSU's Transfer Gateway to estimate how your college courses may transfer and apply toward your intended degree. Have a copy of your unofficial transcript available so you can enter your completed courses.

Transfer Gateway

Can I earn WSU credit for AP or IB exams?

You may earn college credit based on your AP or IB exam scores. Have your official scores or transcripts sent directly to Wichita State's Office of the Registrar. After you are admitted, the Registrar's Office will review your scores and add any eligible credit to your WSU record.

After You're Accepted

What should I do after I'm accepted?

Congratulations on your acceptance!

Start by setting up your myWSU account and checking your WSU student email regularly. You should also submit any final transcripts, apply for financial aid and housing if needed, and complete the orientation, advising and enrollment steps for your student type.

The enrollment process looks different depending on your student type, so make sure to check your email for your next steps!

Do I need to formally accept or commit to Wichita State?

No, Wichita State does not require formal acceptance or commitment. Completing your next steps, including orientation and enrollment, lets us know you plan to attend.

Scholarships, financial aid, housing and other programs may have separate deadlines, so be sure to review the dates that apply to you.

When is the deadline to enroll in classes?

There is not one enrollment deadline for every student. Enrollment opens before each semester, and classes can fill up, so complete your orientation and advising steps as early as possible.

Some scholarships or academic programs may require you to enroll by a specific date, so be sure to review any deadlines that apply to you.
