Duane M. Nagel, Ph.D.
Associate Professor
Education:
Dr. Duane Nagel is an Associate Professor of Marketing whose research explores how marketing approaches, digital transformation, and community dynamics drive engagement, innovation, and societal impact. He examines how individuals, organizations, and communities navigate change, foster belonging, and sustain meaningful connections across digital, economic, and social landscapes. His work focuses on how marketing tools and practices can support adaptation, growth, and long-term impact in an increasingly connected and changing world.
Building on this focus, Dr. Nagel serves as Director of the Rural Kansas Community Resilience, Opportunity & Prosperity (CROP) Initiative, which partners with rural Kansas communities to design and implement strategies that strengthen local economies, foster identity, and build long-term vitality.
Before transitioning into academia, Dr. Nagel spent nearly two decades in industry, developing expertise in brand management and channel marketing across consumer packaged goods and powersports markets. This experience informs his applied approach to teaching, ensuring that students engage with marketing concepts in meaningful, real-world ways. His teaching philosophy emphasizes active learning, where students don’t just study theories but apply them through hands-on projects. Many of these initiatives involve collaborations with businesses and nonprofit organizations across Kansas, allowing students to develop strategic marketing solutions with real impact. Grounded in his research on engagement, digital transformation, and community dynamics, his courses challenge students to think critically about how marketing practices shape businesses, organizations, and society. To ensure continued relevance and industry alignment, he actively collaborates with business leaders. These partnerships bring current market trends and practical insights directly into the classroom.
Outside of the classroom and his office, he is an avid soccer fan (Y.N.W.A.) and a wannabe documentary filmmaker.
