FARE promotes an innovative, thriving academic community where faculty are empowered to achieve their fullest potential in teaching and scholarship through mentorship, development programs, and collaborative opportunities across disciplines and in the community.
The Office of Faculty Advancement, Retention, and Excellence launched in the fall of 2024 with our first event and the opening of dedicated office space in 112 Jardine Hall.
Since hiring Coordinator Dr. Debby Hinsdale in January 2025 to assist Director Jan Twomey, professor of Engineering, we have served more than 100 WSU faculty through workshops, writing intensives, networking events, and more.

FARE has made a meaningful difference for me already, and I believe its role in fostering collaboration, mentorship, and proposal development is essential to faculty success and retention at WSU.

The FARE Office awarded grants to six teams of faculty to form mutual mentoring groups for the purpose of strengthening their research, teaching, or another element of their professions.
"FARE has played a critical role in supporting my early success at WSU ... I have gained valuable skills, formed meaningful connections, and laid the groundwork for future research collaborations."
- Dr. Yuanyuan Gao, Assistant Professor, Biomedical Engineering
"The FARE program has made a difference for me in my pursuit of tenure at the university. I am in my 4th year and have never felt so connected across campus as I do since being introduced to FARE activities."
- Dr. Jennifer Thornberry, Assistant Professor, School of Nursing
