Wichita State University's “Pods” provide a visual identity and new hang-out spaces along the East Mall that runs from the John Bardo Center to Braeburn Square. Each of the themed pods, designed by Wichita artist Brady Hatter, stand 16 feet tall and provide seating for six people with a small table in the middle. The pods are made of a steel framework with different materials (acrylic panels, multicolored padlocks and flowering vine) interwoven into the structure.

  • Love Lock pod

    Celebrate who, and what, you love at the first Pod to be installed–the Shocker Love Lock Pod. Buy a padlock at the Shocker Store and attach a tag with a message. It's great for couples but perfect to celebrate milestones and friendships as well.

  • Earth Pod

    Earth Pod, will create an inviting, cool refuge throughout the year. The pod structure provides the perfect trellis for a combination of climbing plants selected by Wichita State University botanists. The exterior will change with the season—from spring green to blooms to deep green to fall color.

  • Shocker Pod

    This Shocker-themed pod is a must for graduation photos. The pod, located on the East Mall between The Suites at WSU and The Flats at WSU, features acrylic panels in WSU colors that bathe the occupants in colored light.

Meet the Artist

The pods are the brainchild of Brady Hatter, a Shocker alumnus and sculpture artist. Hatter designed and is building the pod structures. Follow him on Instagram at @bugmeat_macaroni to see videos of his process.
