Nidhi’s journey as an international student pursuing her Master's of Science in Economics
and Quantitative Analysis at Wichita State University reflects ambition, resilience,
and a strong desire for growth. Expected to graduate in May 2026, she arrived in the
U.S. in July 2024 after earning her bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Economics
in India. The move marked a significant turning point as she sought to gain a global
perspective on economics, blending her undergraduate expertise with new learnings
to create a unique career niche.
During her first semester, Nidhi demonstrated a remarkable ability to seize opportunities
and multitask. She worked as a Graduate Student Assistant in the Department of Economics
under three professors, further strengthening her academic foundation. Simultaneously,
she volunteered with The Sunflower newspaper as an audio reporter, honing her storytelling
skills through podcasting. Her work, featured on platforms like Spotify and Apple
Music, showcased her creativity and ability to produce high-quality content under
tight deadlines.
Currently, she is juggling multiple roles that build on her expertise. She volunteers
as a market researcher with the Kansas Small Business Development Center, where she
focuses on market research and podcast video editing. Despite restrictions limiting
international students to one paid position, Nidhi’s choice to volunteer reflects
her commitment to gaining meaningful experience. She also serves as a content and
media coordinator in the economics department, further solidifying her creative and
analytical skillset. Starting January 2025, she will take on the role of Digital Systems
Engineering Graduate Student Assistant at the National Institute for Aviation Research,
exploring advanced research and technology applications.
Nidhi’s academic journey at WSU has been hands-on and transformative. Assignments
often involve real-world data, requiring her to apply theoretical concepts to practical
scenarios. Nidhi says, “the professors here are incredibly supportive, approachable,
and experts in their respective fields. The resources available, from data sets to
software tools, help enhance my research skills.” She continues, “through these roles,
I’ve realized the value of gaining meaningful experience, regardless of whether it’s
paid or unpaid. These opportunities have allowed me to build valuable skills, make
an impact, and continuously challenge myself.”
Her time at WSU has also been shaped by the support of the Shocker Career Accelerator
team. From refining her resume and LinkedIn profile to providing career coaching,
SCA has been pivotal in helping her align her diverse experiences with her career
aspirations. “The coaches were incredibly supportive and approachable. They empowered
me to confidently explore various opportunities, align them with my career aspirations,
and excel in my chosen fields.”
Looking ahead, Nidhi envisions herself in a role that combines her expertise in econometrics
and quantitative analysis with creative marketing solutions. “My goal is to help businesses
better understand consumer behavior, refine their product offerings, and craft targeted
marketing strategies using insights drawn from data analytics. I also aim to stay
at the forefront of emerging technologies in marketing, such as artificial intelligence,
to continuously enhance consumer engagement and brand positioning.”
Nidhi’s story is one of adaptability and ambition, showcasing her ability to thrive
in diverse roles while continuously challenging herself to grow personally and professionally.
Her journey exemplifies the potential of blending analytical expertise with creativity
to make a meaningful impact.
