Starting at a new school as a transfer student can be exciting, but it can also take
some time to figure out what works best for you. One thing I have learned is that
the format of your classes can make a difference in how you learn and balance everything
else in your life.
One of the things you discover is your own learning style. I learn best when I can
be in person and interact with the class. I like being able to ask questions right
away and have a set time to attend class. I can also learn online when the class is
organized, and I have a clear schedule to follow. Although, I do prefer in-person
classes because I feel I am able to understand the material better when I am physically
present. I enjoy being able to have face-to-face interactions and discussions, but
online and hybrid classes give me more flexibility. Personally, I think online, and
hybrid classes make balancing school, work and personal responsibilities easier. Having
some flexibility when I can complete my assignments is convenient for my busy schedule.
If I were to give advice to prospective transfer students, I would advise that for
in-person classes you need to be able to participate, go to class and learn how to
manage time outside of class. For online classes, time management, self-motivation
and organization are very important because there is more responsibility to keep yourself
on track. Hybrid classes are a combination of both online and in-person, except you
will only meet in person once a month, and the rest of the material is online. Depending
on how you like to learn, some classes work well online, while others are better in-person.
Being organized is a very important skill for college students to have. Personally,
I like using a calendar and excel sheet to keep track of all assignments, exams, work
and other things. Writing down due dates and keeping up with my schedule regularly
helps me avoid falling behind. My biggest study tip is to start early and avoid waiting
until the last minute to do something. Find a study routine that works with your schedule
and ask for help when you need it. Overall, there isn’t one class format that works
best for everyone. Take time to figure out how you learn best and what fits your schedule.
The right balance can make school feel much more manageable!
