College years go by faster than you think, which is why making the most of every moment matters. To help future Shockers embrace all that Wichita State University has to offer, members of the Shocker GOLD Network, a community of recent graduates who stay connected through their Shocker pride, share their advice and encouragement for making the most of the college experience.

  • "Hey Shocker!

Get amped, you are about to create so many lifelong connections!

Get involved, try new things, cheer on your friends, introduce yourself to your profs., the list goes on!

Ultimately, enjoy this cool and challenging time in your journey!" - Taylin F.

  •
  • “No matter how tough things become, how many stressors invade your life, you have to fight. Don’t let your dreams die in a blaze of glory. Life should be shared with friends and loved ones and taken slow, unwrap the gift of life as slowly as you please because your future will always be your own.” - Landon C.
  •

  • “Stay the course and go with your gut. I changed my major a couple times, but that is what your gen ed classes are for. Over time, I think you will grow to love both, the major you graduate with and WSU.

    Go Shocks!” - Jacob R.

  •

  • “Don’t be afraid to ask for help. If you are struggling reach out.” - Sheikh M.

  •

  • “Don’t give up when it gets tough! Do the hard things – you’ll do great things.” - Ben S.

  •

  • “Do everything you never thought you would be involved with as a college student. Meet and listen to everyone you meet. Don’t freak out if you change your major or take extra time to finish your degree.” - Andres S.

  •

  • “Regardless of your major or career goals, I recommend learning spreadsheets and being comfortable with generative AI. I also recommend starting everything early to prevent procrastination.” - Colton

  •

  • “It’s okay if you don’t have it all figured out! Switch your major, move appointments, try all the clubs!

You’ll meet some of your best, lifelong friends here. Hold them close <3." - Sydney T.

  •

  • “Try something outside of your comfort zone, meet as many people as possible and do an internship.” - Stacey

  •

  • “Try everything you can! You never know who you will meet and what you will end up loving along the way.” - Gaby

  •

  • “Always be willing to meet new people, try new things, and don’t take yourself too seriously! Also, work hard in class.” - Emily L.

  • "GET INVOLVED!" - Mackenzie H.

As you can see, there are common themes among the advice from Shocker GOLD members - get involved in activities and organizations on campus, don't slack when it comes to coursework and remind yourself often that you do not have to have it all figured out. And remember that the Shockers who came before you are rooting for your success!
