The aerospace engineering department at Wichita State is the seventh oldest in the
nation. Located in the Air Capital of the World, we have long benefitted from and
contributed to Wichita's rich aviation history, home to such names as Airbus, Bombardier-Learjet,
Textron/Cessna/Beechcraft, and Spirit AeroSystems.
You may know Wichita is considered the "Air Capital of the World." You may know nearly
every major aviation company including from Airbus to Spirit AeroSystems to Textron
Aviation all have production or engineering facilities in Wichita. You probably know
that Wichita State has an aerospace engineering program that has graduated thousands
of engineers that work in those companies.
You may not know, though, that Wichita State’s program is ranked first among ALL United States universities in industry-funded aerospace research and development, according to the National
Science Foundation. That’s right, Wichita State is ranked ahead of schools such as
MIT, Texas A&M and Purdue.
