Cohen Honors students in Dr. Chelsea's Parks, People, Place: Exploring Our National Parks class visited the goats on campus this week. The innovative use of goats for land management provided great context for this week's class projects focused on environmental stewardship. The Parks course explores leadership and stewardship in the national parks learning from National Park Ranger virtual presentations, hands-on projects, and small group discussion.

You can read more about the goats in the recent Sunflower article!

Cohen Honors Colloquium Students Create Community

This week, 136 new Cohen Honors students gathered for the Honors Colloquium. In addition to learning about research and design-thinking opportunities on campus, creating chaos with paper airplanes, and meeting current Honors students, they painted Turquoise Tables to create a community space open to everyone in the front of Shocker Hall. Stop by to see their work and sit down for conversation!

Learn more about the national Turquoise Table project here.

How do you know you’re alive? What evidence
will you leave? So many myths

are unraveling; a yellow swallowtail glides by over
the sinless creek bed. A storm

wets the skin and we are surprised we have
skin. Woods’ rose, white-flowered rhododendron,

nothing here is unfinished. What it gave me? I saw
a new tree emerge out of a ground made of ancient trees

on top of more ancient trees, on top of more ancient trees,
on top of more ancient trees, and understood then

that this was how the Earth was made
