In this presentation, we describe a community storytelling initiative that is part
of Alce su Voz, a health equity program housed within Wichita State University's modern language
department. The initiative focuses on gathering and disseminating oral history interviews
related to the COVID-19 pandemic in Kansas Latine and Mayan communities, with a focus
on experiences with language barriers in healthcare and community resilience.
These stories serve to strengthen communities, shed light on the individual impact
of systemic problems for policymakers, and support students' understanding of the
relationship between language and health equity.
To register for the event, scan the QR code in the flyer below or go to https://bit.ly/3RqhQMY. Lunch will be served.
