Wichita
Bachelor of Applied Arts, concentration in filmmaking
My freshman year I was attending Kansas State University; however, after COVID hit and I returned home to Wichita, I reexamined my major. I then decided to change my major to filmmaking, and after seeing Wichita State’s program, I chose to switch schools.
Through college, I struggled with not knowing if I was good enough to be in the art field. I overcame this through pushing myself to do more projects. Through each project, I learned more and gained more confidence. The faculty at Shocker Studios also helped me through tough times.
There is a park in Maize that me and my friends will go to. We sit and talk for hours and look up at the stars.
I would play “Bad Girls” by M.I.A. It’s a really great hype song.
I am a part of a film, “Do It Again,” that is going to go to film festivals, and I will also be working with ICT Films.
My biggest piece of advice that I could give to other students would be to tell people to get out of their heads and get involved with things. For me, this was doing as many projects going around the studios as possible. This will be different for different students and majors, but participating in diverse activities really helps to get you out of your shell and make new friends.
