ORIGINAL MESSAGE, FEB. 16
Because of anticipated inclement weather on Thursday, Feb. 17, Wichita State University will close campus operations; however, instructors are encouraged to hold classes remotely if possible.
Students, faculty and staff are asked not to come to campus.
We understand there are employees who must still report to campus to oversee facilities, public safety, and research activities; and we appreciate your dedication and contributions.
All employees should follow inclement weather procedures for timekeeping and leave reporting.
Sincerely,
Dr. Shirley Lefever, interim provost
Werner Golling, vice president for finance and administration
The primary reason why the campus may be closed is for safety. Closing the campus reduces the number of employees and students on the roads during periods of weather when it may not be safe to travel, especially longer distances. Closing the campus also allows the university to clear roads, parking lots and sidewalks without working around cars.
The president and his designee(s) determine inclement weather closures. These decisions are frequently made in consultation with the provost and vice president for finance and administration.
If you have questions as to whether you’re required to report to campus during inclement weather, contact your supervisor directly.
The time frame is determined on a case-by-case basis and can range from an hour's delay of the start of the workday, to early closure, to an entire day, or multiple days. Always monitor University announcements on WSU Today and stay in communication with your supervisor.
Again, please reach out to your supervisor to work through any questions If you still have concerns, consider using any employee leave hours that are available to you. You can check your leave balances through the myWSU portal.
Instructors are encouraged to make every effort to hold class remotely and communicate that decision via WSU email or Blackboard to students. If an instructor cancels class, they are asked to immediately communicate with students.
WSU’s Housing and Residence Life will remain open. Students who live in campus housing will be able to eat meals in Shocker Hall. For information, visit the Dining Services page.
Please review the employee FAQs.
