On and off campus, Shocker engineering and computing students have access to the largest
engineering co-op and internship program in the state. This puts real-world experience,
college credit, a paycheck — and dream careers — with employers such as Airbus, Spirit
AeroSystems, Koch Industries, Textron Aviation, Boeing, NASA, SpaceX, NASCAR and the
U.S. Military all within reach.
Dr. Anthony Muscat has been named dean of Wichita State University’s College of Engineering,
effective July 25.
Muscat is a professor and chair of Chemical and Environmental Engineering at the University
of Arizona, where he has been since 1998.
His career history includes administrative appointments as Department Chair of Chemical
and Environmental Engineering and Acting Department Head of the Aerospace and Mechanical
Engineering, both at the University of Arizona. He received a bachelor’s in chemical
engineering from the University of California-Davis and a master’s and Ph.D. in chemical
engineering from Stanford University.
In making the announcement, Wichita State Interim Executive Vice President and Provost
Shirley Lefever said: “We are excited to welcome Dr. Muscat as the next dean of the
College of Engineering. His unique background and experience will enable the college
and university to continue to grow our current engineering programs and will enhance
our ability to seize opportunities in growing fields, such as digital transformation
and data analytics. In addition, Anthony's passion for elevating the student experience
will allow the college and university to expand our applied learning opportunities
for our students and create interdisciplinary experiences in the classroom, research
spaces and in the community.”
“The camaraderie in this talented group of faculty and staff, combined with their
enthusiasm for hands-on learning and applied research, sets the college apart,” Muscat
says. “To be chosen as dean is a dream come true. I look forward to helping the college
expand its vision of applied learning to do impactful research and to educate students
who are workforce ready.”
Muscat takes over from Interim Dean Steven Skinner, who has held the job since Dean
Dennis Livesay took a position in February as dean of the College of Computing at
Michigan Technological University.
