What is your degree in?
Doctor of Nursing Practice.
What led you to Wichita State to begin with?
I moved here for my bachelor’s in nursing at Wichita State after completing my bachelor’s
degree in biology at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa. The campus felt the
most at home of all that I visited.
How are you feeling leading up to graduation?
I feel mostly excitement. I cannot wait to start my practice and help patients lead
healthier lives. This is the moment I've been dreaming of since I was 5.
What has been your most helpful learning experience while a student at Wichita State?
The in-person classes and labs. It gives you a chance to hear other's questions and
think of the material in a way you normally wouldn't. These are the classes I learn
and retain the most from.
What was been your biggest challenge as a student, and how did you overcome it?
My biggest challenge has been balancing work, school and attempting a social life.
By getting into a routine and working hard during designated homework time I was able
to not let school run my life. Time-management skills saved me more than anything.
What are your plans after graduation?
I hope to find a job in the Wichita area or relocate to Nevada. I need to gain experience,
so I am not too picky on the type of job initially. Eventually, my goal is to work
in orthopedics or dermatology.
How has the COVID-19 pandemic affected your time at Wichita State or your post-graduation
plans?
I'm lucky that it hasn't affected me academically. The biggest loss I feel academically
is not being able to have a hooding ceremony. I am hopeful that COVID hasn't affected
the job market.
What advice would you give other Wichita State students?
Find your routine early in the semester and stick with it. Develop relationships with
your fellow classmates and help each other out. You'll learn more and develop lifelong
friends.
