The WSU Police Department's mission is to ensure the entire community receives quality
law enforcement services in a fair and compassionate manner while enhancing the educational
experience of students by providing them with guidance and support.
Shocker Nation is full of amazing people. One of those people is WSU Police Officer
Efrain Rueda, who has received a University Police ribbon for two outstanding actions.
In spring 2019, he stayed for hours with a student during the night as she dealt with
the trauma of her roommate's death. He stayed with her until her parents arrived from
out of town to take over.
And more recently, upon finding a homeless woman on campus during a thunderstorm, Rueda
paid for her to stay in a hotel for the night.
