About the Barton School of Business
The W. Frank Barton School of Business is the home of real and applied learning.
A place where students apply knowledge gained from faculty and business leaders while
developing professional and life skills. The Barton School is among the top 1% of
business schools worldwide, with double AACSB accreditation in business and accounting.
The school is housed in an award-winning building, Woolsey Hall, which serves as a
cornerstone for challenging yet supportive educational opportunities. Woolsey Hall
also features remarkable artwork, sculptures, gardens and The Promise Bridge, a 300-foot-long
pedestrian bridge over the water in front of the building.
The W. Frank Barton School of Business at Wichita State University is excited to announce
a $100,000 commitment from T. Michael Young, a retired managing partner at The CapStreet
Group, to create a new Barton School scholarship for business students with financial
needs. Young was a first-generation college student who graduated with a Bachelor
of Business Administration in Accounting from WSU while married and working full-time.
“I believe that affordable and accessible education is imperative to the success of
our society,” said Young. “The challenges I had and the lessons I learned during my
time at WSU served me well throughout my career. I’m excited to be in a place where
I can help other working students who desire a higher education.”
In addition to serving as a Managing Partner at The CapStreet Group, a private equity
firm, Young was the CEO of several private and publicly owned distribution companies.
He has also served on the board of directors of several private and publicly owned
companies including Koppers Inc., a global provider of treated wood products and chemicals,
Emeritus Corporation, a national operator of assisted living residential communities,
and Restoration Hardware, Inc., a specialty retailer of high-quality home furnishings,
hardware and related merchandise. Young is a certified public accountant and former
partner of Arthur Andersen & Co.
He remains connected to his alma mater as a member of the WSU Foundation and Alumni
Engagement National Advisory Council as well as the Barton School of Business Dean’s
Advisory Board.
“Mike’s generosity and commitment to the Barton School and Wichita State is a shining
example of our alumni,” said Dr. Larisa Genin, Dean of the Barton School. “This scholarship
will have a life-changing impact on our students.”
