There are moments in life when success is measured not by what a person earns, but by what they overcome. For Dr. Silver Kung, a Wichita State University alumnus, member of the Barton School Dean’s Advisory Board and supporter of the school, those moments became the foundation of his new book, Silver Linings: Finding Wealth, Wisdom, and Redemption on the Hardest Road of All.

The memoir, which is currently listed as #21 on USA Today’s Bestselling Book List, chronicles Kung's remarkable journey from inheriting nearly $10 million in family debt at the age of 27 to becoming a globally respected investment leader. Through vision, resilience, and disciplined leadership, he transformed that challenge into a $3.4 billion investment enterprise, earning numerous prestigious international awards and recognition along the way.

More than a story about finance, the book explores resilience, integrity and the belief that life’s greatest setbacks can become its greatest opportunities. The book officially launched June 22, 2026, during an event hosted by publisher Worth in New York City, where business leaders, investors and guests gathered to celebrate its release.

“People often see success without seeing the years of sacrifice behind it,” said Kung. “I wrote Silver Linings because I wanted others to know that difficult seasons do not define us. With resilience, integrity and hope, even the hardest road can lead somewhere extraordinary.”

Born in Taiwan and educated in the United States and China, Kung built an international career spanning investment management, renewable energy and global finance. Today he serves as founder and chairman of Siegfried Capital Group and Siegfried Asset Management Limited, leading investment strategies for institutional clients around the world while championing responsible investing and sustainability.

His journey, however, began far from boardrooms and financial markets. Shortly after graduating from WSU with a degree in Aerospace Engineering in 1997, political upheaval devastated his family’s business, Kung inherited overwhelming financial obligations that shaped the next decade of his life. Working low-paying jobs while repaying debt, he learned lessons about perseverance, responsibility and character that would ultimately define both his career and his leadership philosophy. Those experiences became the inspiration for Silver Linings, which blends personal storytelling with practical insights on leadership, decision-making and finding purpose through adversity.

While his professional accomplishments have earned international recognition, Kung has remained committed to giving back through education. As a member of the Barton School Dean’s Advisory Board and a generous supporter of Wichita State, he continues to share his experience with future business leaders and help strengthen opportunities for Barton School students.

“Silver’s story reminds us that leadership is not defined by titles or achievements, but by resilience, humility and the willingness to persevere through adversity,” said Dr. Larisa Genin, dean of the Barton School of Business. “His journey reflects the values we strive to instill in every student, and we are proud to celebrate this milestone with him.”

The Barton School plans to bring Silver Linings into its community through future student and alumni engagement opportunities, allowing readers to explore the lessons that shaped Kung’s personal and professional journey. For Kung, the message of the book extends far beyond finance.

“I hope readers finish this book believing that every challenge carries the possibility of renewal,” he said. “No matter where you begin, your next chapter is still yours to write.”

Kung’s impact continues to extend well beyond the classroom. Through Silver Linings, he now offers that same spirit of perseverance and possibility to readers around the world. Learn more about Silver Linings at https://www.silverkung.com/book.
